NIRAVARI: A Parsimonious Bio-Decisional Model for Assessing the Sustainability and Vulnerability of Rainfed or Groundwater-Irrigated Farming Systems in Indian Agriculture

Groundwater irrigation is essential to sustain food production, and aquifer depletion represents a major sustainability challenge for humanity. There need adequate modelling tools assess the impacts of farming practices on groundwater resources with policy-makers farmers in different contexts, especially case smallholder farms tropics. We introduce NIRAVARI model, which was designed represent Indian water resource context. parsimonious model integrating biophysical decisional processes dealing system table processes. A specific focus given how irrigate multiple resources. Its formalisms include equations from well-tested published models soil moisture plant stress simulations. The programming graphic user interface based Excel VBA. illustrate ability simulate broad range farmer adaptation strategies using four scenarios cropping systems policies, therefore, its interest participatory scenario design assessment stakeholders.
